If you enjoy the prospect of setting up a business of your own and you enjoy the traveling industry, you may want to learn how to start a home based travel business.  While you could start up as a completely independent travel agent business, unless you are experienced, you may want to affiliate yourself with a host travel agency.

The first step in learning how to start a home based travel business is to find a host travel agency.  In other words, you would become an independent contractor for the business.  They would provide you will training, teach you how to take care of the financial aspect of the business, and how to track your commissions.

When choosing a host travel agency, look for those that have excellent credentials.  You may also want to send in an inquiry to the Better Business Bureau, as well.  Review their website and determine what type of training they can provide you with, as well as what type of support structure they have for their independent contractors.   Of course, you will also need to compare the different fees associated with the host travel companies, as well as what type of commission structure they have and benefits they can offer.

Once you have found a host travel company that you wish to be affiliate with, you will want to also determine whether or not they include error and omissions insurance as part of the contract you will sign with them.  While you can purchase it on your own, you will find many of the companies will offer it to you as part of their benefits package.

You should then write your business plan.  This will cover all aspects of your business and let you clear up any details left undone.  From helping you to determine how much money you will need to get started to how you are going to market your business, you will find it to be pretty much like a step-by-step guide to your success.

Of course, you will also need to set up a home office that will allow you to work in peace.  Keep in mind, if your clients are going to be visiting your home, you will want your office set up away from the center of your home.  The ideal situation would be to have your office directly off the entry into your home.  However, if your home design does not allow for this, you will have to make do.

The process of learning how to start a home based travel business may not seem difficult, but you must understand that this business is going to require your complete dedication.  It is going to take a lot of time to build your business and you can not expect to succeed overnight.
